Three new short films by Bari Pearlman documenting life in the Tibet Himalayas—at elevation 14,000 feet. Ritual Objects (15 min.) is a rare and intimate view of three traditional Tibetan Buddhist rituals filmed at Kala Rongo, a Buddhist monastery exclusively for women. Water (8 min.) gives us a close view of how one girl collects and carries 80 pounds of water a mile. In Tsampa (7 min.) we watch a young nun quietly preparing tsampa, a mixture of roasted barley flour, yak butter and tea—often the only food available. |
